THE BRICK
A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too
fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and
slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared.
Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the
Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of
the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was
that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and
that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?" The young boy was
apologetic. "Please, mister please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He pleaded.
"I threw the brick because no one else would stop..." With tears dripping down his face and
off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. "It's my brother, "he said
"He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up." Now sobbing,
the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his
wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me." Moved beyond words, the driver tried to
swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back
into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and
cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. "Thank you and may God bless
you," the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched
the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a
long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never
bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this
message: "Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your
attention!" God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have
time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.
Inspiration to be "Greatfull"
Inspiration to be "Greatfull"
Welcome
"At times our own light goes out and is
rekindled by a spark from another person.
Each of us has cause to think with deep
gratitude of those who have lighted the flame
within us."
Albert Schweitzer
Inspiration is defined as arousal of the mind
to special unusual activity or creativity.
Inspiration comes in many forms... A
beautiful landscape, a sunny day, or a
thoughtful visit from a friend. These inspire
us to paint a picture, enjoy a leisurely walk,
or make a visit of our own.
Your participation in "Greatful Livin" will
inspire others who read your daily entries.
Gratitude can make a day, even change a
life. Your willingness to put it into words is
all that is necessary.
Your reward will be the inspiration you will
receive from reading what other members
write in our Gratitude Journal.
"Happiness is as a butterfly
which, when pursued, is always
beyond our  grasp, but which if
you will sit down quietly, may
alight upon you."
Nathaniel Hawthorne
We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thought.
With our thoughts, we make our world.

Here is the test to find whether your mission on
earth is finished:
if you're alive, it isn't.

Richard Bach, Author, philosopher
"Men are not disturbed by things, but the view they take of
things."

- Epictetus (55-135 A.D.)

Happiness is not the cause of Gratitude... It is the result!
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial
into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity.... It turns problems into gifts, failures into
success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense
of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow."

Melodie Beattie
The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee
When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not
enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the
class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to
fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it
was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the
jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the
students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand
filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded
with a unanimous "yes."
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire
contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students
laughed.
"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar
represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your
health, your friends and your favorite passions--and if everything else was lost and only they
remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles a re the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.
The sand is everything else--the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he
continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you
spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that
are important to you.
"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take
time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will
always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first--the
things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor
smiled. "I'm glad you asked.
It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for
a couple of cups of coffee with a friend"

Attitude

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror,
and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today?" So she did and she had a
wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her
head.
H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today?"
So she did and she had a
grand day.

The next day she woke up,
looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head.
"Well," she said, "today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail."
So she did and she had a
fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up,
looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head.
"YEA!" she exclaimed,
"I don't have to fix my hair today!"

Attitude is everything.
